Simple instructions for setup 1. mp and cns run from the "MS-DOS" command prompt. If you double-click their icons, they'll just flash up and then disappear. This is expected behavior. So open an MS-DOS command window, set your PATH to include \usgs\tools\bin, and you will be able to run mp and cns by typing their names at the prompt. 2. Tkme is best run from a shortcut. Put the pointer on the desktop background and press the right mouse button. From the menu select New, and from the little menu that pops up there select Shortcut. Browse the directories until you find the file tkme.exe. Name the shortcut something informative ("Tkme" might not be a bad choice), and click Finish to create the shortcut. You should be able to double-click the shortcut to run it. a) Tkme needs to be told where its help file is. The easiest way to do that is to include this information in the Target field of the shortcut. Use the right mouse button to click the shortcut and select Properties from the menu that appears. Click the Shortcut tab and append to the text in the Target field: " -h \USGS\tools\doc\xtme.hlp" (don't add the quotes, but do make sure there's a space before the -h). b) You can change the icon of Tkme if you wish. A suitable icon file is located in \usgs\tools\doc\tools.ico. Good luck! Peter N. Schweitzer (U.S. Geological Survey, Reston VA 20192) pschweitzer@usgs.gov
