Software
Below you will find software that will allow for the successful completion of FGDC compliant
metadata.
All software has been tested to run on Intel based computers using
Microsoft Windows products. Users requiring
applications for systems other than Windows should direct their search
to the Wisconsin's
Metadata Tool Box.
Update:
Software last updated on 20011008
- Metadata Creation:
CorpsMet95
CorpsMet95 has one of the
most intuitive and informative interfaces available. The
interface to this tool provides multi-pane interface that allows for easy
navigation. While the tool is not without it's faults, CorpsMet95
proves to be a very productive tool for creating
metadata.
- Parsing Tool:
MP
Meta Parser was created by Peter
N. Schweitzer of the USGS. MP is a command line utility used
to check the hierarchically indented text-values of metadata against the
FGDC content standard (CSDGM).
Additionally, mp includes functions that generate a diverse number of
metadata distribution files. Each type provides a specific function
that directly contributes the distribution
of metadata. MP is the recommended tool for FGDC
compliant metadata.
MP will run on UNIX and PC's running
Windows 95, 98, or NT. Visit the USGS Formal Metadata web site
for UNIX versions and information.
Additional
Metadata Software:
In addition to the two
supported metadata programs indicated above, the following software products
have been provided in this workbook but are not directly supported:
- The USGS
Formal Metadata Tool Kit UPDATED
Peter
N. Schweitzer, developer of mp,
created an entire "suite" of metadata tools named "USGS Tools for
Creating Formal Metadata". UNIX users should visit
the USGS Formal Metadata web site to download their copy.
The kit
includes:
- CNS
(Chew 'N Spit ):
A metadata "pre-parser" designed to convert records
that cannot be parsed by MP into records that can be
parsed by MP
- MP
(Meta Parser)
Command Line utility used
to check the hierarchically indented text-values of metadata against the
FGDC content standard (CSDGM).
Additionally, mp includes functions that generates a diverse number of
metadata distribution files.
- TKME (Tk
Metadata Editor)
Tkme is a Windows based metadata entry tool which
originated as an X-Windows metadata tool known as xtme.
