Funding Strategies
ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH FUNDING AND BUDGETING

It's not easy to get money to develop a GIS.  It's a significant cost no matter how you look at it, but use what you have.

1) Get a Champion to promote your cause

2) Use your organizational assessment to determine your needs vs. your capabilities.  Maybe you don't need that $10,000 workstation when a $2000 PC will do the job for you.

3) Part of the GIS assessment for your organization should have included a Cost Benefit Analysis.  Use it to justify the expenses.

4) Look for partners to share needs and expenses.

5) Pursue Grants.
