GIS
Day 2003 Screen Saver.exe—Use
this screen saver on your PC(s) before,
during, and after your GIS Day event. To
begin the setup process, double-click
on
the setup.exe file. Follow the wizard-driven
instructions to load the file. Duplicate
the screen saver onto a floppy disk or
CD and give it to your GIS Day participants,
or place it on your Web site for download.

updated materials to assist you in
the planning and implementation of
your event. Don't forget to read "How
to Host a Successful GIS Day Event" first,
as it is filled with many event ideas
and helpful tips. And the Media
Guide will help you get the word out locally
about your event. The new Geography
Matters white paper is excellent pre-reading
for your GIS Day event and will help
start discussions within your classroom
or organization about the vast array
of applications and endless possibilities
for GIS technology.

Is GIS.pdf
(234 KB)—This flyer describes GIS through
simple, easy-to-understand examples. This
document may be given to all GIS Day participants.
- GIS
Day 2003 Flier.pdf (607 KB)—This
flyer is designed to be used in promotion
of GIS Day. Use it to explain what
GIS Day is and how others can get involved.
- Editable
Flyer.pdf (603 KB)—This flyer is the
same as the 2001 flyer but contains an
editable text box on the back at the top.
The text box allows you to enter information
about your event. Send this piece to all
individuals invited to your event.

Please
be advised that the items with an asterisk
(*) next to them are very large and
may take a while to download. If this is
a concern for you, please check the file
size before beginning.
GIS
Day logos have been provided, allowing
you to choose from a variety of different
file types. Some of the logos are in
Encapsulated PostScript file format (.eps).
An .eps file is easily imported into
a variety of graphics programs. Use this
logo to create posters, flyers, T-shirts,
buttons, and so forth. The usage
guide explains how to use the file and is to
be given to the person responsible for
printing. Please do not customize or
alter the GIS Day logo in any way. Color,
black-and-white, and grayscale versions
are included.

help build momentum for GIS Day. Refer to
them when you are explaining what GIS is.
Newly
available are three forestry-related
posters designed specifically for GIS Day.
Editable
Posters
These three posters were designed to allow
you to add information (150 characters)
relevant to your event such as time, location,
a brief description, etc. The editable text
box is found on the bottom of the GIS Day
poster and in the green column on the right-hand
side of the collage posters. Use these posters
to promote your event.

- GIS—The
Power of Information (1.4 MB)—As fires
ravaged the forests of the western United
States, the USFS communicated timely and
dynamic information about the fires and
their suppression operations to users of
the World Wide Web.
- GIS—Information
Beyond Boundaries (1.4 MB)—Even though
the boundaries of the resources that a land
manager administers can be clearly defined,
the information required by these stewards
to work effectively continues to grow. GIS
has become a vital tool to help manage the
data and applications to use these resources
wisely.

systems allow us to create digital models
of reality in order to help us better understand
the natural systems of our world and the

all of us. Use this presentation at your
event to educate and inform.

may be used to introduce GIS and GIS Day
to an adult audience.

of various GIS applications in PowerPoint
format. Plot screen shots out in a large
format and post them on a wall at your event.
Use these maps to assist in illustrating
how GIS is used across many different industries/markets.
Ask participants to guess what GIS problem/issue

K-12
- Beginner.ppt—This
presentation is appropriate for younger
children. To keep the children's attention
it is short, elementary, and concise.
- Intermediate.ppt—This
presentation is also suitable for children
but is more detailed, targeting a higher
age group.
- GIS
Day.ppt—This presentation is a very
interactive PowerPoint with audio and visual
effects. This PowerPoint is appropriate
for all ages.
- GIS
Journey.ppt—This
presentation is appropriate for upper elementary
school students. The cartoon character,
GIS Gisa, takes them on a journey and teaches
them how useful GIS technology is.
